Frequently Asked Questions

When is the season going to start?
The season starts at different times depending on the division of play.  Majors and Minors practices start the week of March 1st (March 1st is the first day that teams are allowed to practice).  AAA starts in late March and AA/T-ball will start in early to mid-April.  For more details on divisions of play, follow the link here for Baseball or here for Softball.

School time ends later this year - how will this affect practice time?

School time will make things a bit more challenging this year.  Until Daylight Savings Time starts, practice fields will be prioritized for upper divisions.  We will do our best to allot fair amounts of practice time given the expected season start dates for each division of play.

Why didn't my child get selected for a certain division of play?
WLL makes a conscious effort to get 8-12 year olds into the best division of play for their abilities.  We hold Player Evaluation days for ages 8-12 specifically to evaluate each child's skill level so that we can get them into the best division for their success and safety.  For more information on expectations of each division, follow the link here for Baseball or here for Softball.

What is the Mid Season Classic?

The Mid Season Classic is WLL's annual fundraiser to help pay for the costs of running this organization.  It helps supplement registration costs to pay for our field usage, uniforms, and equipment.  All teams in WLL are expected to participate in the MSC - it is a fantastic community day to spend with friends and teammates at NAF Park.  For information on the Mid Season Classic, follow the link here.

I am thinking about volunteering to Manage a team or be an Assistant Coach - but I am a little intimidated by the responsibility.  What should I do?
We have first year coaches every year - they are absolutely essential to the success and sustaining of the league.  Very rarely do they not come back to coach the following year.  WLL provides Mentors for lower level (AAA/AA/T-Ball) Managers/Coaches to reach out to during the season.  Additionally, WLL provides practice plans and drills to run that gives first year coaches a nice 'recipe' to follow.  Practice Plans and Drills can be found here to help ease your concerns!

Why do parents have to umpire in 89ers/AAA/Minors/Majors?  Why can't we hire paid umpires?
Little League is a 100% volunteer run organization.  The mission of Little League is for community involvement to allow the league to run and operate, providing valuable lessons in both baseball and life for the children of our community.  Part of this involvement falls on the shoulders of parents to umpire games.  Similarly, parents are involved as volunteers in managing, coaching, scorekeeping, as well as the operation of our WLL board.  Without volunteers, in all capacities, Little League would not be able to operate.

My child is 5 years old but during Registration he is being forced to the Age 6-7 group.  Why is that?
Little league Baseball calculates 'League Age' by the school year (a league age year runs from Sep 1 thru Aug 31).  For Little League Softball, it is calculated by the calendar year (a league age year runs from Jan 1 thru Dec 31.  So, if you have a 5 year old that turns 6 anytime before August 31 of that year, they will be 'League Age 6' for baseball.  For more information on how to find out your child's league age, go here for Baseball and here for Softball.
